11pm Wanderlust

This "sunset" shot was taken from Reykjavik harbor (Iceland). It was around 11 pm when this shot was taken - actual sunset wasn't for another 2-3 hours. A couple friends and I went wandering the harbor for a few hours instead of going to sleep - the long days really mess with your sleep cycle.

Nutmeg

Macro shot of raw (unground) nutmeg from my kitchen. I hand-held the flash off to the right of the image, as well as 2 100-watt lamps (not that you can tell - the direct flash overpowered the lamps). Taken using a (tripod-mounted) Rebel XT, 100mm macro, Speedlite 430ex flash.

Put a Cork In It

This is a macro shot of the cork from a bottle of La Fin Du Monde beer that I took while messing around with an ETTL flash cable. The flash was hand held off to the right of the cork (direct illumination), while 3 incandescent lamps provided diffuse ambient lighting (a general idea of the setup can be seen here (only the nearest lamp was pointing up to bounce off the ceiling and the backdrop was the cloth instead of the cutting board). I like the combination of the "warm" light from the incandescent bulbs on the top of the cork and in the background and the harsher light provided by the flash. Taken with my 100mm macro on my Rebel XT.

A tiny mushroom on an ice-covered log. I can't understand why it was alone. Maybe it's not a fungi? (sorry) Another taken with the 100mm macro lens. And frozen hands.

I believe that this is an iris. Taken when I was comparing the optical quality of my 100mm macro to my 70-200 f/4L IS (this is from the 70-200).

This is a shot of a bubble light on the family Christmas tree. This shot was the last one I got before some family members unexpectedly showed up over an hour early for Christmas Eve dinner. Macro shot (100mm macro) on a tripod.

A macro shot of daedalus's eye. I didn't correct for the tungsten "warm" shift of the light bulb for this shot - it works well with the colors of the feathers.
